Neighbor of Choice Lockheed Martin is committed to addressing some of the most important issues of our communities.  With a focus on education of the next generation of engineers and technologists, we are helping develop the workforce of the future.
Focused on enhancing the quality of life in the communities where we live and work, Lockheed Martin is a neighbor of choice.
Volunteerism
- Lockheed Martin employees have logged over 8 million volunteer hours of their own time in the community since 2002.
- 2009 was the fourth consecutive year employees volunteered more than 1 million hours in a single year.
- The Corporation recognized 4,578 employees with President Obama's President's Volunteer Service Award for volunteering more than 100 hours each during the year. Over 23,000 of these awards have been earned by Lockheed Martin employees since 2003.
Employee Giving Employees gave $22.2 in workplace giving programs:
- $18.5M in charitable giving to the United Way and Charities of Choice campaigns in 2009
- $2.54M to colleges and universities in 2008 matched by $2.54M from the Lockheed Martin Foundation in 2009
- $1.09M to the Lockheed Martin Employee Disaster Relief Fund in 2009
Philanthropic Contributions
- Lockheed Martin donates $24 million annually.
We distinguish our Community Relations efforts by focusing:
- 50% on Education
- 30% on Community Outreach
- 20% on Customer and Constituent Interests
Education Lockheed Martin's Engineers in the Classroom initiative includes pre-engineering curriculum from Project Lead The Way, support of extra-curricular activities, and engineers going into classrooms as role models.
Community Community outreach is handled at the local level and includes support for:
- Homeless shelters
- Food drives
- Programs that aid disadvantaged families
- Programs for children who are ill or have faced a tragedy
- Medical-research and health-related organizations
Customer and Constituent Interests Focus programs include:
- Lockheed Martin Employees Care, a corporatewide program that provides care packages to U.S. military troops overseas through Operation USO Care Package.
- The Corporation and employees have contributed more than $1.4M to the program.
- Over 3,200 employees and their families stuffed more than 250,550 care packages at "stuffing parties" across the country.
- "Uniting though Reading," a Family Literacy Foundation program that enables servicemen and women to read stories aloud on videotape to a child in their family. The tapes are sent home to the children.
